Privacy
What Defiance stores, what becomes public, and how analytics works.
Defiance is operated by Defiance Lab Inc, a United States company. For privacy questions or requests, email [email protected].
Defiance displays public X posts and forecasts their engagement. The site stores recent public forecasts and your display preferences in your browser to make navigation faster.
USDG wallets
Wallet addresses, signed quote terms, transaction hashes and settlement evidence are stored to operate and reconcile the USDG pilot. Blockchain deposits, withdrawals and trades are public and cannot be removed from the chain by changing X profile privacy settings. Wallet sign-in uses a one-time signature and an expiring session token in browser storage; the server stores its hash. A pending transaction hash or signed order may stay in tab storage so a retry can check the same action. The application never requests an exported private key.
Connected wallet providers process the data needed for wallet access and signatures. Privy handles X or wallet sign-in and creates an Ethereum wallet for users who do not already have one. Blockchain RPC services receive queries and submitted transactions.
Your predictions
Log in with X through Privy to save predictions privately to your account. We store your public X ID, handle, display name and profile image, plus your latest call for each post, its submission time, forecast context and recorded result. Privy handles the X authorization. We verify its signed identity token before attaching your X profile to an account. Our secure, HttpOnly social session cookie expires with that token, within one hour; Privy can refresh it while you remain signed in. Logging out ends both sessions. Wallet-only login does not attach an X profile. Earlier anonymous submissions remain linked only to a hashed browser identifier. Your identity and prediction choices are not sent to Google Analytics.
Trades and balances
We store accepted quotes, stakes, selected markets, transaction hashes and settlement evidence to reconcile real-asset trades. Your portfolio is shown for the connected wallet. Blockchain records are public and remain available after logout.
My posts
My posts shows public posts we have already collected, matched to your X profile linked through Privy. Opening this page does not start collecting new posts or enable account monitoring.
Banger Lab drafts
Drafts and quoted words are sent to our API only when you select Analyze. JEV and OpenRouter process the words to produce an experimental estimate and content breakdown. The API does not store draft bodies in its database, object storage or application logs; validated provider results can remain in a private in-memory cache for up to one hour. Hashed browser and IP identifiers enforce usage limits. Draft text is not included in page URLs or analytics, and the website does not save it to browser storage.
Search
Searches are sent to our API to find matching public posts. To also find related posts that don’t use your exact words, the API sends the search text to OpenRouter, where Voyage AI’s embedding model turns it into numbers to compare with public posts; the result can remain in a private in-memory cache for up to one hour. To improve search, we record each search you settle on: what you typed, how the site read it, how many posts it found, and whether you opened a post or added a call from it, with that post’s ID and place in the list. These records carry no account, cookie, IP address or browser identifier, and they expire after 90 days. A daily hash of your IP address, kept only in memory, limits how often search records can be sent. Search text is not included in page URLs or sent to Google Analytics.
On-demand forecasts and notifications
Opening a missing public post can start collecting its engagement snapshots. Those public snapshots stay in our regular dataset. We use a random browser identifier and a daily hash of the requesting IP address to limit collection requests. If you choose Notify me and grant browser permission, we store the browser push subscription for that post’s forecast window and send its update through your browser’s push service. You can revoke notification permission in browser settings. The site can send this update after you close its page; delivery depends on your browser and device settings.
Usage analytics
If you allow analytics, we use Google Analytics to understand visits, pages viewed, referring sites, device and browser information, approximate location, scrolling and outbound link clicks. Google uses cookies to distinguish browsers and sessions. We do not send your private prediction choices, browser voting token, or form input values to Google, and ad personalization is disabled.
Google processes this information on its systems. Detailed event data is retained for up to 14 months; aggregated reports can be kept longer. Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Analytics is optional. Declining does not affect forecasts or saved predictions. Your choice is saved to your account when you log in with X, without an expiry. A first-party preference cookie and browser storage also remember it on this device and across Banger Lab. You can change it below. Turning analytics off stops new collection and clears this site's Google Analytics cookies; it does not delete data already collected.

External services
Our site and prediction API run on AWS. Public author images load from X's image servers, and links to original posts open X. Those services receive the information needed to handle requests, such as your IP address.
